I went to the movies last night to see Eastern Promises. Fantastic movie, but a little more gruesome at times than I was expecting! That’s not the point of this post, however. I saw an ad for an upcoming movie called Juno. It’s coming out sometime in December and looks as though it will be a another good one for Fox Searchlight. There was one quote in the preview that stood out to me and I just wanted to pass it along. It’s advice that a father gives to his daughter and I think it’s pretty darn relevant for everyone… It might not be exact, but close anyway:
“All you can ever ask is that someone love you for exactly who you are.”
So… those are my words of wisdom for the day. Hope you’re having a good one!
Shop is closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - reopen on Friday:)
See you soon!
So exciting:) Check this out!! Unlike the last shopping event, we’ve got our very own website for this one! Yesterday, I purchased www.eastofessexnyc.com yesterday. Today I created and uploaded the main image with TONS of technical help from my dad (thanks Pop!!) — he is a whiz when it comes to html whereas I only know the photoshop part — and layout consultation from my partners in crime in the organization of this whole thing: Karen (of Dangerous Mathematicians) and Ashley (of Honey in the Rough). After lots of conversation, planning and recruiting, we’re ready to launch the best event to hit the Lower East Side all year!! We’ve got 21 businesses involved so far and we’re confident it will grow even more. Check it out below and stay tuned for more info. The press release goes out tomorrow. Karen and Ashley will liaise with a designer this week to get a proper event image, and I’ll make adjustments to the site when I return from the holiday on Friday. It’s gonna be a good one folks, so mark your calendars!!

I know I’ve directed you all to Citysearch before, but please allow me to do it again;). The fabulous Joanna helped me out with a featured listing on the site. If you go there now you’ll see a photo of the shop, an editor’s review and a few reviews from other folks. If you have a moment and you’ve been here to the shop, it would be loads to me if you would go ahead and write a quick review. It’s extremely helpful for business and as we roll into the holiday season I could use a little extra exposure;). Thanks so much everyone!!

There’s a chill in the air, an extra skip in the step… The holidays are coming!! To celebrate and properly introduce the holiday season, Clarabella will host a trunk show for leather goods designer Tracey Tanner and jewelry designer Amy Tavern. Please join us on Saturday, November 24 from 1 - 6pm or any time in between for great deals on great gifts, 10% off all store items and maybe a little hot toddy to satisfy your shopping needs;).
Happy Thanksgiving all - hope to see you on the 24th!
Well, maybe not Clarabella… she’ll stay right here, but I’ll be going up to Maine. My thinking here… most people tend to head out of the city for the Thanksgiving Holiday. If they do, they’ll leave Monday or Tuesday to try to beat the Wednesday traffic. I know these things cause I used to be a part of the big bad corporate world too;). If they don’t leave town, no one really does a lot of shopping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays anyway. I know THESE things because I’ve been open for over six months. SO… I’ve decided to stay closed from Monday - Thursday. Have no fear… I’ll be re-opening on Friday with a 10% off storewide sale EVEN on all the awesome new stuff. And to top it off, I’ll be hosting Tracey Tanner and Amy Tavern right here in this darling little shop for an exclusive NY trunk sale! Did I mention that neither of these talented gals are currently NYers? This means that if you want the deals, you can only get them here. Stay tuned for a flier and more info on treats and reasons why coming to Clarabella is the best thing that you can do for yourself on a Saturday afternoon;).
But I digress… back to the point.
Extra Holiday Closings:
Tuesday, Nov. 20
Wednesday, Nov. 21
Thursday, Nov. 22
REOPEN ON Friday, Nov. 23
See you soon darlings;)

Just in time for the holidays, I’ve got a sampling from one of the hottest new labels to New York City, Love Brigade. They are a remarkable company and have pretty much impressed the pants off me so far;). Not only do they have an incredibly unique and city saavy jewelry line, but their main gig is clothing. They recently (well, in Sept) showcased their Spring 2008 line and there are no less than 5 outfits I’m drooling over at the moment. Check them out here. I’ve got 2 styles of earrings and 4 necklaces. I would love to show you photos, but sadly, my camera has finally died. I’m getting my new one (that broke a while back) fixed this week, so I’ll get you some shots soon. In the meantime, check out this collaboration that Love Brigade did with Fashion Indie and The New Pop:
Video Episode - Vol. 1
Video Episode - Vol. 2
Video Episode - Vol. 3
Video Episode - Vol. 3
and to appeal to my music background, the Love Brigade boasts a Music Merchandising company as well. I just love these folks;).

donated 2020 grains of Free Rice. What can I say, it’s a better way to procrastinate. I should be entering in receipts… instead, I’m donating rice. I can’t say I feel *that* bad;)>
It always happens around the holiday season… events a plenty. Open Studios, trunk shows, sample sales and more. A few of my picks are listed below. Stay tuned for all of the upcoming Clarabella events as well. Wouldn’t want to miss out new art, special sales, yummy cocktails or anything else;). E

Crane Street Open Studios - Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 & 18
It’s that time again… The amazing graffitied building at 46-23 Crane Street will open up it’s doors and give you all a sneak peak into the lives of the artists within. Painters, Jewelers, Photographers, Sculptors, Videographers and more… This place has it all. Many of the artists will be selling their wares and they’ll all be there to answer any questions you might have. If you’ve never been, it’s worth the trip. The building itself is it’s own work of art. The graffiti is inspiring, even to a gal in the graffiti heart of brooklyn (AKA Williamsburg). If you do make the trek out, make sure to head up to the 4th floor to suite 405. Nicole Gagne of Leoworks and Angelica Bergamini (both represented here at Clarabella) will be there to greet you. They’ve got a fantastic space there and if you mention me, you’ll likely get a big smile;).

BYLU Sample Sale/Holiday Party - Thursday, Dec. 6
Amazing Jewelry, Open Bar and Dance Party (what a perfect combo!)
If you’re not familiar with Dana and Ken’s line, BYLU, check it out here: BYLU
They’ve got an amazing design sense and their pieces are absolutely STUNNING! I may have to send someone over to the sale on my behalf so I do feel too left out;). If you’d like to attend the event AND apply to be my runner, let me know;). Clarabella will be having an event that night as well, and Stay is less than a block away!
This site is fantastic. Check it out, improve your vocab and donate free rice to those who have nothing. What an excellent idea.
