Ladies Ladies Ladies!!
I’ve got something special for you… It’s a little handbag line called Blumera - made with love and care by LA gal Mehera Blum. I’ve showcased her designs at Clarabella, but never before quite like this. Ms. Blum has been hard at work on her new line and has dedicated months of her time to making it look just right. She uses supple leather, pure silver hardware, and hand-dyed linings - all put together by Blum herself and a team of very talented artisans in Bali. The result is a stunning, show-stopping line of luxurious bags so lovely that even super-chic ladies like Jessica Alba and Eva Mendes have fallen under their spell. Ms. Blum is here in NY for one week only and Clarabella has the privilege of hosting her for a very special trunk show. From 1 - 4pm this Sunday, October 26, you’ll be able to oogle the full line, and maybe even take home your very own masterpiece. Don’t believe my hype? Take a peek at the photos and decide for yourself. Better yet, come on by and see us. Add to the event a few tasty treats and a pair of smiling faces and you can’t go wrong!

About the Designer:
Her website here.
A passionate actress, expressive dancer, and loving spirit, Mehera Blum has given herself over to her latest creation, Blumera. Drawing inspiration from the brilliant colors and sensual textures of India and employing the skillful artisans of Indonesia, coupled with her depth of feeling, Mehera designs bags for women like herself, who wish to uniquely express themselves. Sophisticated yet exotic, luxurious yet functional, the Blumera line boasts versatile collections with refined detail and stunning material assuring quality and long life. Hand-sculpted silver adornments bear inspirational quotes of love, pure silk interior linings dyed in Blum’s favorite color magenta, and hand-cut leather, braided, tooled and tasseled, reveal her joyous enthusiasm for life and her innate ability to infuse the creative magical forces of nature in her works.
So… Clarabella loves music. She loves music Sooooo much that she’s offering a very special deal for other people who love music. Well, the CMJ variety in specific. The CMJ Network is an awesome company that strives to connect music fans and music industry professionals with the best in new music through interactive media, live events and print. They produce an annual new music festival right here in NY. A week’s worth of shows with new and established artists packing the fans into venues all over the city. Most venues have 5 or 6 sets a night giving music lovers ample opportunity to discover someone new while checking out a favorite. The festival itself started on Tuesday and features a new downtown homebase. Since the downtown shift for CMJ headquarters, their super marketing team thought it might be nice to reach out to local establishments, draw them in and include them in the festivities. They scratch our backs… we scratch theirs;). Clarabella is happy to be a part of this! She should be listed in the festival guide (and online) along with a slew of other great shops, bars and restaurants. If you happen to be a CMJ badge holder, you will be treated to 20% off all Clarabella merch for the duration of the festival (now through Saturday). So… CMJ peeps. Come on down and say hi - maybe start your holiday shopping a little early;).

Miss Clarabella was extraordinarily pleased to host 2/3 of the No Good For Me trifecta last night for a very special art opening - Beautifully Worn. Laura Jane and Kat came on down in the afternoon to hang the show and a few hours later, the walls were bedecked with photos portraying readers wearing their most favorite outfits/item of clothing/pair of shoes/piece of jewelry. Each photo comes with it’s own little story, written by the subject. Without seeming too biased, it’s pretty darn cool! The opening started at 6pm and had a fairly constant flow of visiters throughout the evening. We drank wine, we ate cupcakes, we tried on shoes and shared a few stories. I feel fairly confident in saying that good times were had by all.
For the full photo layout, head on over to Clarabella’s flickr page. There are a few quick ones for you posted below.
Thanks to all who came out. Thanks most of all to the wonderful women at nogoodforme. This show is awesome!!

Me, Laura Jane and Kat:
I’m SO excited about tomorrow’s opening for Beautifully Worn. Curated and presented by the amazing gals at NoGoodForMe.com, the show is a photography exhibition investigating the deeply personal relationships that we form with our most beloved garments. Kat, Laura Jane and Liz put a call out to their readers (and I to mine!) for photos… they requested candid submissions showcasing a favorite piece of clothing, pair of shoes, piece of jewelry. The response was big - about 50 photos - and from what I hear, a bit fascinating. The photos are printed and ready to roll and will go up tomorrow afternoon in preparation for the opening tomorrow evening. Photos are printed at various sizes and are accompanied by whatever anecdote was sent by the subject. You’ll be able to wander about the shop, checking out different fashion statements while learning a bit about the real-life models. I have a feeling it’ll feel like a daily discovery for me;).
Check out a few samples below, as well as the press release. I do hope we’ll see you tomorrow night. We’ll have wine and treats as usual, and 2 of the 3 ‘no good gals’ will be here to chat you up. See you soon!

BEAUTIFULLY WORN
A fashion photo show curated by NOGOODFORME.COM
Beautifully Worn, curated and presented by style/pop culture blog NOGOODFORME.COM in conjunction with NYC boutique CLARABELLA, is a photography exhibition investigating the deeply personal relationships that we form with our most beloved garments. It will be on view from October 15 – November 30 at Clarabella, 279 E. Houston Street between Clinton and Suffolk Streets. An opening reception will be held on October 15 from 6 to 9pm at the boutique.
Readers of NOGOODFORME.COM were invited to submit photos of themselves in response to a simple question: “What do you love to wear?” The results fall at an intersection between social documentation, fashion photography, and self-portraiture. The photographs themselves demonstrate a range of visual approaches as diverse as the clothes chosen, ranging from innocently amateurish to artfully professional; the selected photos are everything from spontaneous snapshots to the posed-and-composed. The sheer variety of responses reveals that we all have our own personal reasons for loving the clothes we do, whether out of nostalgic attachment or the feeling that a given garment can communicate something significant about our identity.
The show’s layout takes advantage of CLARABELLA’s uniquely warm, intimate environment and will reflect the dynamic nature of the contributions with an installation that ventures off the walls, with selected photos nestled, scattered and arranged throughout the shop as well as on the main gallery wall. In opposition to the laboriously constructed, edited, and mass-produced images of the fashion industrial complex, Beautifully Worn highlights the subjective, DIY, and improvised individual relationships to fashion that inevitably help define our daily lives.

First, let me extend my deepest apologies for taking such a long vacation from the site! I can’t believe it’s nearly been a month since my last post. It’s all been a bit busy lately, with new orders coming in, new events to be planned and this hulking financial mess we’re in. It’s been a bit of a dark cloud over the city, one that surely extends far beyond, but I do believe we’ll pull out of it. Clarabella certainly isn’t going anywhere - she is a fighter;). She’s sets her sights on what she wants and sticks with it, and right now, she wants to be open and thriving for a long time right here in the Lower East Side. So, the show goes on. I have so many things to catch you all up on, but I’ll just start now with some new product. Shoes glorious shoes has been a frequent title on this blog and now is no exception. I’ve got new shoes and boots in from Mariana, Farylrobin, Cre de Coeur, Devotte, and Tashkent. It’s like a big shoe party down here and you’re all invited;). Too much? I know, but it’s starting to get exciting again, so I just can’t help it. Scroll down for a peek and stay tuned for more updates, more images, event announcement and more - coming at you this week!!
