Clarabella on hiatus;)

Meaning of course… VACATION!!!!!

I’ll be driving up to Canada tomorrow for a week with friends and if we’re lucky, a little sunshine.

That said, Clarabella will be CLOSED from August 1 - August 10. You’ll miss me, I know, but think of it as a trial separation leading into the real thing come August 28;). As usual, please check out the online shop, but know that anything purchased while I’m away will ship out on August 11 and not before. Thanks for your understanding. You know I love you!! Hope you all have a fantastical week and a half and I’ll likely be in touch. I’m (gasp) bringing my computer with me on vacation just in case, so chances are you’ll be hearing from me. I’ve been far too quiet lately and if you’re a regular follower, you know that’s not like me. My chattiness will resume shortly!! xxErin

Closing Press…

This will not serve as my official closing notice;). I’m way too sappy and emotional and after 3 years of pouring my heart out to all of you, I’ve got a whole heck of a lot to say about leaving. Thing is, I’m racing to finish work today so I can take my little (BIG) vacation. So for now, you get the press and the sappy, tearful, loving, bittersweet goodbye will come later.

Time Out New York and Refinery29 grabbed news of my closing from an art show press release and then Izzy from Racked called me today to confirm the news.  I’m touched that there are people out there (including press) that are sad that I’m closing and am even more touched they feel it’s worthy of some press coverage and a little bit of tribute. So… check it out.

Also, as you’re getting super excited about the BIG sales - remember that Clarabella will be closed from August 1 - August 10, so make sure to come see me after that!!

ATTENTION EVERYONE!!

it’s clarabella’s last art show!! I’m so thrilled to be able to give that privilege to Matt Doubek. He’s been such a pleasure to work with - so low-key, so down-to-earth, so incredibly nice! The only thing that could possibly make it better is if we were to actually have him here for the opening. Alas, he’s a Colorado man and will send his hellos and regards from there. Please do join us for his opening… a very special viewing of some pretty remarkable artwork. See all the info below and I’ll see you next week!!

recent works & rarities BY matthew doubek
showing at clarabella from july 21 – august 31

Boutique/Gallery CLARABELLA is pleased to present Recent Works & Rarities, a collection of work by MATTHEW DOUBEK. The exhibition will be on view from July 21 – August 31 at Clarabella, 279 E. Houston between Clinton and Suffolk Streets. A reception for the artist will be held on July 23 from 6 to 9pm at the boutique.

In the fantastical world of Matthew Doubek, a collision is happening every day.  Illustration meets materials found in dumpsters. Paint mixes with old magazine clippings. Brushes merge with oversized pencils and permanent markers. Collage hangs on freshly sanded wood. And thank God, beer lives in harmony with jellybeans. Matthew Doubek has been bringing his fascinating tales to life through painting and illustration under the moniker “alias krap masters studio” for more than a decade.

His techniques range from inverted drawing to transferring crazy images via xerox to using salvaged materials ranging from vintage magazines to old paint. To be honest, he was eco-friendly when eco-friendly meant you were digging through dumpsters to find other people’s crap. It is this synergy of different elements that unite characters, places, and stories into one piece of work. Upon looking at an alias krap masters studio original, one may be incited to chuckle, or turn the head slightly askew, or just to stare in fascination from the depth inherent in his work. His illustration brings to life characters found in old magazine clippings, giving them wrinkles in their faces and depth in their character.

Matthew Doubek’s work has been featured in numerous national publications, and exhibited in galleries across the country, including the cities of New York, Denver, Atlanta, and Minneapolis.

Summer Vacation, Take 1

Well, I warned you;). Summer vacation #1 is upon us and Clarabella will be closing her doors at 5:30pm today to take the long train ride out to JFK and a short plane ride up to Portland ME. I’m very sorry if I’m robbing any of you readers of your needed accessory shopping next week, but am hoping that you’ll understand that everyone need vacation… even little shop owners! Please check in on the online shop - I’ve updated sale items and I think you’ll be pretty pleased with the new prices. Any orders placed this week will be shipped out between Saturday July 11 and Monday July 13. But the deals are worth the wait!! Almost all of the sale items are at wholesale and below. And really… how can you beat that coming from a boutique??

Anyway, I’ll be in touch while I’m away. I’ll let you know if I see any wild animals or have any huge ‘Maine-style revelations’. In the meantime, enjoy your holiday!! Watch some fireworks, go to the beach, eat some BBQ… whatever it is, do something for you!!

xErin
